Our Story

Every great love story has its own unique beginning and ours is no different but before we dive into the story, here is a little information about each of us.

Bride
I am Davida Jones and was born and reared in Miami, Florida. I graduated from the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University with my Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration as well my Master’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. In the fall of 2008, I moved to Atlanta to begin my career with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). I’m currently a Senior Manager within the Investigations and Forensics practice.

Groom
I am Larry Lockett and was born and reared in the “big city” of Macon, Georgia. I’m a true Georgia boy through and through. I graduated from Southern Polytechnic University with my Bachelor’s of Science of Electrical Engineering. I went on to earn my Master’s of Divinity from Turner Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC). I currently work for Nissan as a Regional Technology Officer and commute between Murfreesboro, TN and Atlanta, GA.

How We Met
Davida’s Thoughts
The reason we met is because of my Mom. She is the one who discovered Words of Faith AME Church while she was out running errands although I had driven up and down Veterans Memorial Highway for months and had never seen the Church. Larry became the Senior Pastor of Words of Faith in 2016. We were naturally drawn to each other due to our love for God, for people and many of our shared experiences. On our first date in 2019, Larry gave me a very special gift and I knew then that he was the man that I had prayed for.

Larry’s Thoughts
Then you walked In – for years haunted by a daily dream blurry, colorless, gray, white and dark, far in the distance, unable to make out the image. Hearing only erratic sounds like someone somethings rustling followed by a brief pause, then the rustling returns. Frighten, I’m awaken.

Then you walked In – In the dream, drawn towards the sounds. Now closer to the blurred image, I see, a dove caught in a snare rustling trying to escape. No matter how hard he tries, till exhaustion, he is unable to break free. Pauses momentarily then fights to break free. His heart is closed. He vowed never to Love again. Never to feel hurt again.

Then you walked In - Bright Smile, Beauty like the colors in the rainbow, humble, full of Love.

Davida, when you walked into my life you began to untangle me from the trap and snare. Your beauty, your ever-giving love freed me and taught me how to Love again.

Thanks be unto God for placing you in my life.

The Proposal
Larry enlisted the help of Davida’s sister and closest friend to assist in planning the perfect proposal. It was very important to Davida that not only her family and closest friends be present but also her future husband’s family and closest friends be present to witness this once in a lifetime moment in both of their lives. Larry rented out the private room at Fleming’s Steakhouse (one of their favorite restaurants). Larry planned every detail down to the guest list, colors on the table (purple, of course), the beautifully decorated cupcakes and the menus with our names on it. He even had a photographer there to capture the special moment. Larry told Davida that they were going to dinner with his children for Father’s Day. Once they arrived at Flemings, they were escorted to the private dining room full of family and close friends. Larry escorted Davida to their table, got down on one knee and said……

Larry: “Davida, heaven, must be missing an Angel; because when I’m with you, everything is perfect. It feels right. I love you. You make me better, and I want you to be my wife. Will you marry me?”
Davida: “YES!”

Davida and Larry are beyond excited for their wedding on 6/17/23 (one year from the proposal/engagement) at 6:17 p.m. at Turner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Marietta, GA followed by a reception (invitation only) at the Governors Towne Club in Acworth, GA.
